Step 1: check whether your station is WOW-ready

A “WOW-ready” station has an interface (app or web) that allows a custom upload and supports one of the following protocols: WOW-UK, Weather Underground or Ecowitt. Such a station can send data to the WOW-BE platform.

Examples: Eurochron EFWS2900 (also sold as Garni 940, Alecto 5500, Ventus W830), Ecowitt stations with an internet connection.

Is your station not WOW-ready? You can often still connect it using third-party software, such as Meteobridge, CumulusMX, WeeWX or Home Assistant (see the table under “Migrating an existing WOW station”, step 3). Register as a user and register your station (steps 2 and 3), then enter the station ID and authentication key in the software instead of following step 4.

Step 2: register as a user

Create an account under “Login” or at wow.meteo.be/web/login. Preferably use a social account (GitHub/Google).

Step 3: register your station

Log in and choose “Register a station”. You will receive the station ID and authentication key by email.

Step 4: configure your station

In the app or software of your station, choose “Customized” as the server (so not “WeatherObservationsWebsite”). Set the upload interval to 1 minute.

Wunderground protocol

• Server: wow.meteo.be
• Path: /api/v2/send?
• ID: short station ID from the registration email
• Key: your self-chosen authentication key
• Port: 80

Ecowitt protocol

• Server: wow.meteo.be
• Path: /api/v2/send?
• Port: 80

The Ecowitt protocol uses your station’s MAC address as identification — no ID or key required.

Stations without a configurable upload path

For stations such as the Bresser 8-in-1 (WSLink app): use the Wunderground protocol with server towowbe.dev.

Step 5: check the connection

Check your personal dashboard to see whether data is being sent. Your station will appear on the map a few minutes later.

The existing connection between your station(s) and WOW Met Office will be discontinued during 2026. To connect your stations to the WOW-BE platform, they must be re-registered on the WOW-BE platform of the Belgian RMI. The upload protocol is identical to the former UK Met Office protocol, except for air pressure measurements: the parameter ‘baromin’ is now always interpreted as relative air pressure (i.e. pressure adjusted to sea level).

Step 2: register your station on the WOW-BE platform

Log in and register your station. After registration you will receive by email a new station ID (short and long version) and your self-chosen authentication key. The station ID is not the same as the ID of your station on WOW Met Office.

Step 3: update the endpoint and station details

Change the upload endpoint from http://wow.metoffice.gov.uk/automaticreading? to http://wow.meteo.be/api/v2/send?

Most weather software now supports the WOW-BE platform in recent versions. Look specifically for “WOW-BE upload” in the software.

Make sure you use your new station ID (short or long version) and authentication key here.

Step 4: check the connection

Check your personal dashboard to see whether data is being sent. Your station will appear on the map a few minutes later.

Take into account these important changes compared to the old WOW protocol:

• The solarradiation parameter has been added.
• rainin is interpreted as rainfall intensity in inches/hour for all protocols.
• baromin = relative pressure; absbaromin = absolute pressure. baromin is the authoritative value.

The placement of your station is at least as important as the quality of the sensors. Please try to follow these guidelines:

• Temperature: Place the thermometer in an open, well-ventilated location, away from buildings and other heat sources.
• Wind: Place the anemometer as far as possible from buildings, trees and other obstacles.
• Rainfall: Place the rain gauge in an open location, away from obstacles.
• Humidity: A difference of a few percent between sensors is normal. In fog above freezing, relative humidity should be close to 100%.
• Air pressure: No specific placement requirements.
